This team of Georgia songwriters knew how to meld popular culture with country music in five words: “you got your hands up.” That got the attention of every concert and party goer who had may have never been exposed to country music. Half of the draw of this smash, though, was the video. The first in a two-part micro-series, it shows superstar Luke falling for an attractive concert attendee. It also harkens back to the Travis Tritt trilogy of videos telling the story of Mac Singleton. Look ‘em up.

Remember that whole “sexy” thing? Yeah, that. Lyrically, “Drunk On You” oozes sexuality, from the drip of honey on the money maker (uh…what?) to taking it off on out in the water. Boom-boom, baby! The video for “Drunk On You” also finished telling the story of a fictitiously single Luke who had fallen for a concert goer. Fictitiously single, ladies.
“That’s My Kind of Night” – from Crash My Party

There was definitely a love-hate relationship with Luke’s seventh #1, and while it may have been controversial even within the country music community, or at least with Zac Brown, it also propelled our Georgia boy to the top of both the singles and album chart simultaneously. Now, can we clarify the lyrics? “Floatin’ down the Flint River, catch us up a little catfish dinner, gonna sound like a winner when I lay her down and love her right.” EVERYBODY! “That’s my kind of night.”
“Drink A Beer” – from Crash My Party

It’s hard to believe Luke wasn’t a writer on this poignant piece, considering the loss of both of his siblings before he became a star, but that proves his true artistry. He immerses himself in the heartbreak of “Drink A Beer” with simple production, effortless delivery and that country boy warmth that makes it so sadly relatable.

So, back to the sexy thing. And we don’t mind. Nope. Not one bit.

Magic happens when this Georgia quad gets in a writing room together. Truth also happens and these lyrics are as sincere as any of the four friends. While they’re all living in pretty high cotton these days, thanks to the success of numerous hit country songs, it’s nice to hear lyrics extolling the virtues of red dirt riches. Not to mention, it just has a great groove.
