Chris Janson didn’t shy away from the difficult conversation regarding sexual consent in the music video for his song, “Drunk Girl.”

While the singer created the polite guidelines for taking care of someone during a time of need rather than taking advantage of the situation, he and his team advised of all viewers to be aware of the “upsetting” content featured throughout the four-minute clip. Breaking down walls about the preconceived notions that arise when accusations of sexual consent comes about, Janson just wanted to represent the right way to treat a woman who needs chivalry to prevail.

“We don’t ever want to offend anybody,” said Janson to People. “But man, it’s almost a disservice if you don’t bring light to some subjects that are so important and don’t get talked about nearly as much as they should.”

The viewer sees a young lady leaving a date while a tad intoxicated when she revisits her upbringing and what led her to this point. From flashes of witnessing domestic abuse to becoming a victim of rape, the fear builds up in her eyes as she faces what could turn into a compromising position. Thankfully, the guy knows how to properly deal with the situation by calling her an Uber and texting her to make sure she’s safe.

As a father, Janson needed to record such an important song in order to show his kids and the rest of the world that there is a decent way to go about drunken mistakes that doesn’t involve hurting others in any way possible.

“It’s a message song to the younger generation of men about being sure that you always show women the utmost of respect, certainly in the situations of taking somebody home, or in youthful terms, ‘hooking up.’ You want to make sure that you are doing it with great respect and being a man about it. I think that ‘Drunk Girl’ is the epitome of that, and such a well-written song,” he told Sounds Like Nashville previously.

Fans can listen to “Drunk Girl” on Janson’s latest album, Everybody, now.
