Forever Country Cover Series: Lucie Silvas Covers ‘Always on my Mind’
The country newcomer brought in her own vintage piano stand and busted out the chillingly romantic tune, complete with acoustic and slow electric guitar riffs.
Taking a nod from one of her truest inspirations and one of country music’s most legendary artists, Willie Nelson, Lucie Silvas gave her own hauntingly beautiful rendition of his hit, “Always on my Mind.”
The country newcomer brought in her own vintage piano stand and busted out the chillingly romantic tune, complete with acoustic and slow electric guitar riffs. Passionately singing out all of the lyrics that honor the memories of a longing love, Silvas showed off her vocal prowess between every old-fashioned note she channeled throughout the cover.
Noting that the track has always been one of her favorites from growing up, she wanted to pay tribute to the song and the man that made it the devoted tune that it is.
“I picked ‘Always On My Mind’ because it’s such a beautiful song. It’s a song I’ve been listening to since I was a kid and I just think it’s such a sweet sentiment. Hearing Willie Nelson sing it, that’s my favorite version of that song and I just thought it would be really lovely to play it on piano and sing it and do my own sort of take on it,” Silvas explained to Sounds Like Nashville exclusively during the session.
Nelson took home the CMA Awards for Song of the Year and Single of the Year in 1982, and once again for Song of the Year in 1983.
