George Strait and Miranda Lambert Flashback to ‘Run’ at ACM Awards
This blast from the past will put a smile on your face.
Country icon George Strait and Miranda Lambert offered up a flashback to simpler days with a tag-team performance at the 54th ACM Awards. They shared the stage for a smile-inducing rendition of Strait’s 2001 hit, “Run.”
Standing side by side with a neon-lit cityscape behind them, the Texan duo traded warm glances throughout the delicate song – with Lambert wearing a fringy-frilly red cowgirl outfit and Strait looking dapper as always in a black coat and hat. All about two lovers separated by space and circumstance, but longing to reconnect, the emotional track was most notable for what it didn’t have. In an era defined by outside influence, this performance featured no pounding drums, synthesizers or auto-tuned rap verses. Instead it was just steel guitar, mandolin and piano, plus a pair of open hearts and pure-country class.
Both singers sported big grins the whole time – especially Lambert – and it wasn’t the first time they’d teamed up for the tune. Strait and Lambert have duetted on the track a few times over the years, including during Strait’s “final tour date” concert at AT&T stadium in 2014. “Run” appears on Strait’s The Road Less Traveled album.
The 2019 ACM Awards, hosted by Reba McEntire, are airing live from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas tonight on CBS.
