Watch the Hunter Brothers’ Awestruck ‘Northern Lights’ Video
The clip features stunning visuals, and a heartfelt message.
Canadian siblings the Hunter Brothers show off their harmony-laden sound – and their devotion to family – in a new video for the track “Northern Lights.”
Premiering exclusively on Sounds Like Nashville today (May 9th), the clip features all five of the brothers – J.J., Ty, Dusty, Luke and Brock – and includes some truly gorgeous imagery. Stunning vistas with desert wildflowers in full bloom, sunny baseball diamonds and curvy open highways are all included, as the brothers pair an awestruck message of naturally-inspired beauty with reminders of their kids and wives back home.
“’Northern Lights’ has many dimensions to it,” says the band. “Musically, it is crafted in five-part harmony, and we wanted to visually represent that in the video. While we have a lot of similarities as brothers, we also have a lot of unique personality traits that when brought together, make us stronger as a group.”
The brothers say they were listening to a lot of old Eagles tunes at the time they wrote the track, and wanted to fuse a sense of vintage nostalgia with their own modern sound. They imagined standing beneath the actual Northern Lights – which growing up, they got to experience quite a bit – saying that “few sights that outshine them.”
“As incredible as they are, nothing compares to the moment you meet the person you want to spend your life with,” they explain. “This song quickly became an anthem and tribute to our wives, and kids. In the video, you can see each brother surrounded by an environment that reflects who they are individually, but the items that appear symbolize how sharing life with our loved ones is ultimately so much more important and more beautiful than anything else.”
“Northern Lights” appears on the Hunter Brothers 2019 album, State of Mind, and like much of the project, it’s defined by richly textured five-part harmonies, thick with emotion and delivered in perfect unison. The brothers grew up on their family’s 20,000 acre ranch in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, a long way removed from any big city thrills. So, they played hockey and made their own music, and lately they’ve been making strides in the latter category.
Since 2017’s “Born and Raised,” the Hunter Brothers have placed three singles inside the Top 10 at Canadian country radio, with their latest release, “Lost,” reaching the Number One spot. Likewise, State of Mind held the No.1 position on iTunes Country Albums chart for four-straight weeks this year, and the brothers are hoping to replicate that success south of the border. They just played a well-received opening set at Country Thunder Arizona, and will make their CMA Music Festival debut on the Maui Jim Broadway Stage next month.
