Jake Owen Road Trips from Nashville to Key West in ‘American Country Love Song’ Music Video
In February, Jake Owen hit the open road in his seafoam green 1966 Volkswagon Microbus, dubbed the “love bus,” for the road trip of a lifetime.
The singer started off in Nashville, TN and made various stops playing music, meeting fans, and taking in local grub along the way. The entire road trip, which wrapped in Key West, FL, was documented on camera and has now become the music video for his current single, “American Country Love Song.”
“The song is about feeling young and free,” the 34-year-old tells PEOPLE. “I’ve done videos before where there’s a bunch of people standing around putting make-up on me and I don’t think of that as being free. I wanted the all-American road trip.”
The concept was simple: have fun. “I thought why don’t I just get in a van with the director and take some good friends and hit the road and see what happens?” shares Owen.
“I’ve gone through a lot in the last couple years,” the Florida native confesses. “And it was nice to just literally drive 55 miles an hour in the right-hand lane, which was as fast as we could go, not be in a hurry, and along the way see what happens… Stop places, play music, eat some good food and talk to people.”
The end result can be viewed above.
“American Country Love Song” is the lead single from Jake’s yet-to-be-announced new album.
