Kacey Musgraves Brings the Twang to Miguel’s ‘Waves’

Opposites definitely attract. The mashup between Kacey Musgraves and Miguel on his song, “Waves,” proves that even the slow jams of R&B can be countrified.

The sensual track is a part of “Rogue Waves,” a compilation E.P. put together by Miguel, featuring different remixes of the track by artists like Tame Impala, Travis Scott and the like. Musgraves seems like a complete shot-in-the-dark next to the lineup, but her remix separates her from the pack in an alternative way.

Mixing the sound of a steel pedal guitar with the seductive, conversation-like lyric creates a groove to the track like none other; Musgraves’ simple vocal feeds the attraction deeper from verse to chorus to bridge. While completely unexpected, her nontraditional influence on country music vibes with the sounds of the track and makes for a smooth duet.
