Kane Brown is ready to take over country radio airwaves with his new single from Sony Music Nashville, “Thunder in the Rain.” The track, written by Brown, Josh Hoge and Matthew McVaney, will hit radio officially on Aug. 22.

The nearly-three minute, high-energy song is a far-cry from his more somber debut country single, “Used to Love You Sober,” but was co-written by the same three men. The idea for it came from something Kane read in a magazine.

“It was kind of a weird title going into it,” Brown told Sounds Like Nashville during a phone interview. “I found the title out of a magazine but I thought it sounded cool. We went in and kind of brainstormed how we could make it a song for like 45 minutes. We came up with the idea of just comparing two unstoppable forces and putting it into a love song… like nothing is going to come between the relationship that we’re in.”

The decision to push “Thunder in the Rain” to radio was actually from the team at Sony, who loved the song before he had even signed to the label.

“When I first met the radio team, before I signed to Sony, it was one of the songs I already had done. I showed them a couple and this is the one that got their attention the most,” he explained. “This is the one they wanted to take and they’re professionals at their job, so I was like ‘alright, if this is the one, I’m going to trust y’all.’ I’m trusting their instinct.”

The radio team aren’t the only people impressed with the track. Brown’s impressive (and rabid) fan base has been loving the song as well.

“They’re all posting saying they got it,” he said. “A lot of people are tweeting it and they’re calling in radio stations and tweeting radio stations, telling them to play it so hopefully radio stations pick up on it.”

Most of all, Brown hopes the song gets people in a good mood and rocking out.

“I hope a lot of people love it. Just roll the windows down and get to jamming out to it.”

“Thunder in the Rain” is from Brown’s forthcoming album, set for release later this year. Fans can purchase the track HERE.
