“Greatest Love Story” hitmakers LANCO take a bold left turn with their hard charging new single, “Rival,” offering up a tough-talking outsiders anthem.

Co-written by the band’s frontman Brandon Lancaster and drummer Tripp Howell, the blood-pumping track mixes twangy guitars and banjos with pounding drums, rowdy vocals and electronic effects. Full of self confidence and devil-may-care attitude, “Rival” might sound like a change of pace for fans familiar with the heartfelt nostalgia of their chart topping double-platinum breakout. But according to the band, the track’s theme is just part of who they are.

“There’s so much pressure to be like someone else or to live up to some outside expectation, especially with social media and how perfect it makes everything look,” Lancaster explains. “We wrote this song from the perspective of no matter where you come from, be proud of who you are and the way you’re creating your own path. And if anyone doesn’t like it, just chalk them up as a rival and keep doing your thing.”

“We realized that everyone has faced something they have to stand up against,” Howell adds. “It isn’t about fitting into any mold, it’s about sticking up for what you believe in and having that crew of friends around that will always have your back. That’s definitely a big part of our story. We didn’t know anything or anyone when we started out trying to break into this business, and I think that underdog mentality really drove us in the beginning.”

“Rival” is the first taste of LANCO’s upcoming sophomore album, produced once again by Jay Joyce (Eric Church, Brothers Osborne). Meanwhile, an electrifying live video featuring “Rival” shows off the group’s dynamic stage show – and how the high-energy single might fit in. The band is currently on the road with Luke Combs’ Beer Never Broke My Heart Tour.
