“Probably more often than not, it’s most people’s story,” the singer told People. “You can trace it back to one moment when you were just in the right place at the right time.”

Granger Smith will soon grace the country radio airwaves with his brand new single “Happens Like That.” The track, which was released worldwide on Friday (5/19), is one close to the Texas native’s heart as it reflects his very own love story with his wife Amber.

When Smith sat down to write the track, he never intended on penning a song so personal, but by the time the second verse rolled around, he realized “Hey, this is my story.”

“Probably more often than not, it’s most people’s story,” the singer told People. “You can trace it back to one moment when you were just in the right place at the right time.”

Smith happened to be shooting a music video back in 2009 when Amber, an actress, walked on set to audition for a part. “When she walked in, that was it.” Seven months later, the two were engaged.

The day the singer set out to write a song, he was out on the road as part of Florida Georgia Line’s tour and happened to have co-writers Jordan Schmidt, Justin Wilson and Andy Albert with him. As the lyrics began to roll out and sparks flew, Smith texted FGL’s Tyler Hubbard to join in on the magic.

“I texted him, ‘We’re onto something,’ and about 20 seconds later he was coming in the bus door,” Smith recalled. “He puts his reading glasses on, studies what we’re saying and immediately reverses a couple of words here and there, phrases something different and then we’re off to the races.”

The men finished the song together, adding some additional details from Smith’s own relationship, and the tune turned into his new single.

“Happens Like That” is the lead single from Smith’s upcoming sophomore album, set for release in fall 2017. The track hits country radio beginning June 12. Fans can catch the rising star on his headlining tour and on Luke Bryan’s Huntin’, Fishin’, And Lovin’ Every Day Tour this fall.
