Maddie & Tae are getting the last word in with their performance of their latest single, “Sierra,” on CBS’s The Talk on Tuesday (May 17).

The duo talked to hosts Sharon Osbourne and Aisha Tyler about the true-life inspiration behind the song and how the track came to be on their new full-length album, Start Here. Maddie Marlow of the group admitted the lyrics came from a childhood frenemy who always targeted Marlow with rude words.

“I think everyone has had a situation where someone told them they weren’t good enough or pretty enough or smart enough or whatever that is,” Marlow said. “And so for us, we kinda had to write this song for me to heal and to realize that people’s words don’t define who you are and you should love yourself regardless of what other people are telling you.”

Their performance of their most recent single was the television debut of the track, which appears on their album available everywhere now.

Maddie & Tae aren’t letting the bullies get them down now as they will head on the road this summer  with Brad Paisley and Tyler Farr for the Life Amplified World Tour.
