Alan Jackson’s son-in-law, Ben Selecman, has died at the age of 28. The young lawyer passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 12, from injuries sustained during a boating incident in Jupiter, Florida nearly a week ago.

Selecman was working as the Assistant District Attorney for Davidson County in Tennessee. His passing was confirmed by the District Attorney’s office (quote via Taste of Country):

The District Attorney’s Office is saddened to announce the passing of Assistant DA Ben Selecman. General Selecman suffered severe injuries during a boating accident and passed away on September 12. He was 28-years-old. District Attorney Glenn Funk said the DA’s Office is thankful for every day that Ben had the opportunity to serve the people of Davidson County. Our prayers are with Ben’s family. He will be truly missed.

WSMV-TV reporter Jimmy Carter first reported the news.

Selecman was married to Jackson’s oldest daughter, Mattie. The two were notoriously private, though Southern Bride covered the couple’s wedding, which was held in October 2017 in Franklin, TN. A funeral for the late lawyer will be held next week.
