When Brett Young heard the news that he earned himself a nomination for the 51st Annual CMA Awards, he knew exactly how he wanted to celebrate: treating himself with a fresh new tuxedo.

Acquiring his first look from the Country Music Association, Young got breaking news that his name landed in the New Artist of the Year category at the upcoming awards show alongside artists like Lauren Alaina, Luke Combs, Jon Pardi and Old Dominion. To honor the breakthrough moment in his career, the “Sleep Without You” singer decided he needed to suit up for the celebration with a new look.

“I’m just really excited to walk out there as a nominated artist. This is my third year at the CMAs, my second as a signed artist. Two years ago, I was sitting in the nosebleeds, last year I was helping host the red carpet, and this is the first year I’m actually going to sit and take in the whole awards. I get to present which will be very cool. I think I might go tuxedo shopping. I’m looking forward to it. I think it’s going to be really fun,” Young told Sounds Like Nashville over a phone interview.

Young wasn’t resting back in his adopted hometown of Nashville when he got the news, though. Like many other exciting accolades given to him, Young happened to be fast asleep in Los Angeles to which he woke up to a plethora of congratulatory messages from friends and family alike.

“You know what’s so funny? Anytime in my career in the last 18 months when we’ve gotten good news, for whatever reason, I’ve been working out in Los Angeles. I don’t know why it’s been timed like that. It’s cool because that’s home. That’s where I grew up, so it’s cool to get the good news while I’m out there. One thing that’s funny, because of the time difference, everybody in Nashville knows before I’m even awake. I wake up to an onslaught of text messages. That was the case again for this one. Sometimes your phone going off and waking up isn’t your favorite way to start the day. When it’s a CMA nomination, it’s just right. I was in a hotel room in Los Angeles and woke up to a bunch of congratulations. It was really neat,” Young said happily.

The 51st Annual CMA Awards will air live from Nashville on Wednesday, November 8, at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
