Cam Greatly Admires George Strait: He’s ‘Such a Badass’
Cam returns to Vegas with Strait for the final dates of his 2017 residency on Dec. 8-9.
When it comes to country music, there’s debatably no better role model who knows the secret to longevity than George Strait and Cam has seen first hand why he’s earned the title of the King of Country while serving as an opening act during Strait’s 2 Nights of Number 1s show at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Getting to watch an icon like Strait night after night has been a valuable learning experience for the rising star. “It’s been amazing,” Cam tells Sounds Like Nashville of opening for the king, admiring the loyalty and professionalism of his Ace in the Hole Band, who’ve been performing with the superstar for more than 30 years. “He’s such a badass.”
Watching side stage each night, she gets to see the audience become enthralled in the show, often times experiencing a range of emotion from laughter to tears as they watch Strait sing the songs of their lifetime.
“His songs pinpoint memories of significant times in your life, so people are going through a whole thing the whole night while they’re watching these sets. It’s so cool,” she describes.
There’s a reason Strait has resonated with fans for so many years and his legendary songs are just one contributing factor. Cam attributes his ability to put on an incredible show with the simplest measures to his long-term success.
“I feel like this is something a lot of people say about him, but it’s very true, but he proves that if you are doing your job well, you do not need fireworks, you do not need crazy dancers on stage,” she explains. “When it comes down to it, if you are really good at what you do and your craft and connecting with the crowd and just being on point every night musically, it’s more than enough. It is an incredible show and I think the fact that he knows how to do that is really impressive. He knows how to pull all that off in real time, in real life, and that’s one of the most impressive things.”
