Carrie Underwood is still recovering from the injuries she sustained in November after taking a tumble outside of her Tennessee home.

In a post shared with members of her fan club on Sunday (Dec. 31), the superstar revealed that in addition to breaking her wrist during the fall, she also injured her face and needed “between 40 and 50 stitches” to patch it up.

“There is also another part of the story that I haven’t been ready to talk about since I have still been living it and there has been much uncertainty as to how things will end up,” the Oklahoma native wrote in the letter, which was sent to Sounds Like Nashville from her publicist. “It’s crazy how a freak random accident can change your life.”

She went on to share even more details writing, “In addition to breaking my wrist, I somehow managed to injure my face as well. I’ll spare you the gruesome details, but when I came out of surgery the night of my fall, the doctor told Mike [Fisher] that he had put between 40 and 50 stitches in.”

The accident forced Underwood to cancel the rest of her public appearances through the end of the year to allow herself time to heal. It’s been seven weeks since the incident and while she’s healing, Underwood admits she’s “not quite looking the same.”

As she prepares to head back into the studio to begin work on her next album, the singer/songwriter is hoping to make a full recovery and hopeful for what the new year will bring.

“I honestly don’t know how things are going to end up but I do know this: I am grateful,” she shared. “I am grateful that it wasn’t much, much worse. And I am grateful for the people in my life that have been there every step of the way.”

“I am determined to make 2018 amazing and I want to share things with you along the way,” she added. “And when I am ready to get in front of a camera, I want you all to understand why I might look a bit different.”
