It’s definitely not the norm for country star Carrie Underwood to randomly show up at the Grand Ole Opry with an exciting proposition for Crystal Gayle during her performance.

On Tuesday night (Nov. 15) at the iconic country venue, Gayle received the surprise of a lifetime with Underwood joining her on stage to extend the invitation for her to join as a member of the Grand Ole Opry. Coming out to shock the audience and Gayle with the offer, Underwood joined the country legend for an impromptu duet of Gayle’s iconic hit, “Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue.” After the spontaneous yet thrilling performance, it was Underwood who honored Gayle for her contributions to the format before giving her the big invitation.

“You are an inspiration to so many of us. You are important to country music, and you are important to the Opry, which is why I was asked tonight to ask you if you would like to join our Opry family officially,” said Underwood.

Of course, Gayle accepted immediately and added that the house of country music has become like a second home to her throughout her career.

“I have always felt like I was a member of the family and this is just so special,” Gayle told Underwood and the audience.

Gayle originally made her Opry debut a whopping 50 years ago at the age of 16 singing the well-known hit, “Ribbon of Darkness.” She will officially be inducted to the Opry on January 21, 2017. Fans interested in attending the induction ceremony can head to the Opry website for tickets and details.
