Look to the left and there’s poodle skirts galore. Look to the right and shiny leather shoes are scuffing their way along the street. Yep, the 50s are back and CMT’s latest series, Sun Records, is about to make fans fall back into the post-war time period.

Telling the backstory of famous musicians like Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Ike Turner, Sun Records proves its period piece theme with the help of those iconic 50s styles. Wardrobe remained a critical part in the making of the series, and it’s safe to say they nailed the era on the head, pompadours and pearls included.

“People had such style and such a pride in how they looked and what they wore,” said Margaret Anne Florence in the exclusive CMT clip.

Each outfit and ensemble styled by the crew inserted the actors back in time to the simpler days when most things still cost a quarter and nothing was automatic. Vibrant colors and made-up hairdos radiate to create each character’s true-to-self persona while sticking to those classic styles that defined the decade.

“Well, the 50s look is a very iconic look,” explained director Roland Joff. “It was an iconic moment for America. The war was over, so there was a sense of optimism and that is reflected in the style.”

Viewers can check out more about the details behind the Sun Records fashion before catching the series premiere on Thursday, February 23, at 10 p.m. ET on CMT.
