Planning to celebrate Independence Day with an all-American summer BBQ? A great party isn’t complete without great music, and country music and summertime go hand in hand, so fire up your grill and your speakers! Here are a few country songs sure to make your Fourth even more festive.

Something Like That by Tim McGraw

It’s only fitting that our first song on this list has McGraw singing about a barbecue stain on his white t-shirt. McGraw reminisces on memories with a girl that he hasn’t seen in years, but he can still remember her suntan lines and red lipstick like it was yesterday. Written by Rick Ferrell and Keith Follese, “Something Like That” came out in 1999 and has been a summer staple ever since.

Pontoon by Little Big Town

Whether partying  on dry land or on a pontoon, this Little Big Town summer smash is sure to have everyone singing along. Written by Natalie Hemby, Luke Laird and Barry Dean, this song paints the picture of a slow day on the lake as Karen Fairchild sings about only wanting to float in her black intertube.

Sounds of Summer by Dierks Bentley

While it may not have been a radio single, “Sounds of Summer” embodies all the things that we love about summer– and Independence Day–like watching fireworks go off in a wide-open sky, hanging out with friends around a bonfire and the feeling of freedom in the air. The song was written by Adam Sanders, Matt Jenkins, Miller Crowell and Zach Crowell, but it’s Bentley’s voice that sets the perfect mood for a summer hang with friends.

Drunk on You by Luke Bryan

In this summertime hit written by Chris Tompkins, Josh Kear and Rodney Clawson, Bryan paints the picture of a hot summer night spent getting a contact high from his lady love. The sultry summertime song may have you wondering if you really need alcohol for your summer bonfire.

House Party by Sam Hunt

Who needs a crowd when you can have a “house party” for two? That’s what Sam Hunt asks in the song he cowrote with Jerry Flowers and Zach Crowell, as he decides to “slide the furniture out of the way” so that he can dance with his girl in the living room all night long. The song works for bigger crowds, too…if you and your friends don’t mind the risk that you’ll “wake up all the neighbors” with all the fun you’re having at your barbecue.

Wasted Time by Keith Urban

Keith Urban is no stranger to putting out infectious songs that you can’t help but sing along to, and “Wasted Time” is no exception. Written by Urban, Greg Wells and James Abrahart, the song has Urban reflecting on the summer nights his youth. While you may not be sneaking out of windows or swinging out over the water on a rope, this feel-good summer tune will hit you with all the feels.

Chattahoochee by Alan Jackson

“Chattahoochee” is a mainstay on every summer playlist–as it should be! Alan Jackson’s ode to youth on the river that taught him “a lot about living and a little ‘bout love,” cowritten with Jim McBride, is almost impossible not to sing along to every single time.

Barefoot Blue Jean Night by Jake Owen

This tune from Jake Owen is another summer staple and it’ll get everyone grooving along. With lots of “woah-oh’s”, this song, written by Dylan Altman, Eric Paslay and Terry Sawchuk, is a singalong waiting to happen.

This is How We Roll by Florida Georgia Line ft. Luke Bryan
Written by some of country’s most well-known names, Luke Bryan, Tyler Hubbard, Brian Kelley and Cole Swindell, this is the perfect song to blast and show everyone how your crew rolls. While it probably would have been a big hit with just Florida Georgia Line, they brought Luke Bryan in on the bridge to seal the deal. It’s another song that’s easy to sing along to and is likely to be another big hit no matter where you’re cooking out at.

Summertime by Kenny Chesney
Kenny Chesney is the undisputed king of summer, and for a good reason. There are many of his songs we could have included on here, but “Summertime” is a classic–and a perfect soundtrack for the season’s most celebrated holiday. Written by Craig Wiseman and Steve McEwan, the lyrics, “it’s a smile, it’s a kiss, it’s a sip of wine, it’s summertime” are like a must-list for your party.
