While Dierks Bentley has cut his albums to vinyl in the past, he knew his latest album, Black, was the perfect record to put on, well, a record.

Since its release in May of 2016, Black has earned a lot of success, including its debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Top Album Charts. From the laidback, carefree vibes of the first single, “Somewhere on a Beach,” to songs like his hit with pop singer Elle King, “Different for Girls,” which highlights more socially relevant topics, Black grasps on to a number of different themes throughout the album. Because of the storyline effect and the separation between subjects from track to track, Bentley always thought of this record as a vinyl due to the hypothetical A and B sides.

“When we created this album, I kept imagining the flow of this record being told with an ‘A’ side and ‘B’ side. We’ve released vinyl before, but I’ve never had the chance to really master it properly and didn’t really put the time in before that it deserved. With BLACK, every little detail has mattered to me,” he said.

Bentley went to Sterling Sounds in New York City to create the perfect-sounding vinyl for fans to pick up and listen to the album in its raw form. Even he was amazed at how incomprehensible it is to think that lines on a vinyl turn into the sounds of music.
