Dolly Parton’s heartwarming movie Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love just earned an 2017 Emmy Awards nomination. The 2016 made-for-TV holiday flick is nominated for Outstanding Television Movie.

Christmas of Many Colors: Circle of Love is in the company of Black Mirror: San Junipero, Sherlock: The Lying Detective (Masterpiece), The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and The Wizard of Lies in the Outstanding Television Movie Category.

The movie, starring Jennifer Nettles, Ricky Schroeder and Alyvia Alyn Lind, is the sequel to Coat of Many Colors, which premiered in 2015. The movie series portrays the story of Parton’s humble beginnings in East Tennessee, giving viewers a look into how the country superstar’s childhood experiences shaped her and set her on the path to living out her dream.

“The movie is called ‘Circle Of Love,’ and the circle represents the family circle, and the halo, crown of thorns and Jesus’ birthday,” Parton said ahead of the premiere. “One of the stories in the movie is when we as children and dad all got up the money to buy Mama a wedding ring for Christmas. She had a house full of kids, and never had a wedding ring. That also represents the circle of family.”

In the movie, a young Parton and her large family face struggles – including nearly freezing to death in a blizzard while her father is away, and her father being trapped during a coal mine cave-in.

Parton herself makes a special appearance in the movie as a woman who inspires a young Parton by offering her a large tip for her singing and playing. This role is reminiscent of the actual town tramp Parton remembers from her childhood who inspired her glamorous stage persona.

The 2017 Emmy Awards will air live on CBS on Sept. 17 at 8/7c. Visit Emmys.com for a complete list of the 2017 Emmy Awards nominees.
