Five Things You Need to Know About Jordan Davis
Get to know more about the country up-and-comer, from his songwriting inspirations to what he actually studied in college!
Although many people may not have heard of Jordan Davis just yet, the country singer/songwriter is about to blow up all over the map in his adapted genre.
With songwriting licks like that of classic rock musicians in the 60s and 70s and a sound as modern as artists like Lady Antebellum or Zac Brown Band, Davis experiments with toeing the line on his rock-country-pop sound he embodies throughout each of his tracks. His latest single, “Singles You Up,” defines his sound with the jamming guitar and heavy drums sitting below witty lyrics that keep listeners on their toes.
Rather than wait around for Davis’ shining moment, Sounds Like Nashville thought we’d get new fans ahead of the curve with five things anyone should know about the country up-and-comer:
- His dad inspired his love for country music
Without the memories of having his dad put on classic country records from Johnny Cash to Jim Croce, Davis would have never discovered his roots within the genre. The songwriting gene in him also got passed down through his father, as Davis said in a promo video that his dad used to just make up random tunes around the house whenever he wanted.
- Davis is a proud Louisiana native.
“I love being from Louisiana. I love every part about it—the people, the culture, the music, the food. I think it’s important for anybody to have home state pride and love where you come from. I just think that people from Louisiana love it a little bit more,” he explained in an MCA Nashville video shot in The Big Easy of New Orleans.
- He actually studied resource conservation in college, not music.
Although Davis always had a knack for music, he attended Louisiana State University in hopes to save the planet’s ecology. Getting a job right after college in the environmental science field, Davis wanted to contribute to keeping the Earth green.
- His songwriting is inspired by John Prine and Sam Hunt…despite contradicting sounds.
“I love these huge, big sounds – big drums, loud guitars – but my favorite show to go to is John Prine or Jason Isbell, you know just standing up there with a guitar. They’re seriously opposite ends of the spectrum, but I think that marrying the two, there’s a cool way to do it,” Davis revealed in his biography online.
5. His brother, Jacob Davis, also holds his own as a recording artist in Nashville
The brotherly love is widely apparent for Davis’ brother, Jacob, who also has his hand in the music industry as well. Jacob landed himself on a record label called Black River Entertainment (see top client Kelsea Ballerini doing her thing just fine with the company). Nevertheless, there’s no competition between the brothers—they actually enjoy writing together when they get the chance and used to trade lyrics off with each other during their early beginnings in Music City.
