Home Free is known for putting their unique a capella spins on popular songs, and one of the best things about the group is that they never fail to maintain the same emotions the songs were meant to evoke. In their cover of Cam’s 2016 single “Mayday,” their tight harmonies fit perfectly with the tension of the lyrics about looking for a way out of a relationship that has gone on for too long.

“’Mayday’ is such a well-written song to begin with, but there are so many interesting musical elements on the original that it gave each of us room to have some fun and put our individual twists on it,” says bassist Tim Foust.

Filmed at The Machine Shop, a renovated mill in Minneapolis, the quintet stands their ground in their newly released music video for “Mayday.” Each member takes a turn singing lead, showing off the chilling upper ends of their vocal ranges. The video cuts to clips of the members singing alone, playing into the feeling of isolation the main character of the song feels as they wonder if they will ever get out of the relationship.

Home Free is set to celebrate the holiday season on their A Country Christmas Tour kicking off November 29 in Rochester, MN. In 2018, they will visit more than 30 cities across the country, including a show at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium on April 6. Tickets for all dates are currently on sale.

The band’s new album, Timeless, is available in stores and digitally now.
