Hunter Hayes Says ‘Know Your Limits’ in New ‘One Shot’ PSA

Country songs often go well with a strong drink, but Hunter Hayes sings for safety in a new PSA series. He’s helping teach young Americans that “Buzzed Driving Is Drunk Driving.”

Created by the Ad Council and the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the clips are all about knowing your limits. They were inspired by Hayes’ 2018 single “One Shot” – and how one drink can quickly turn into too many.

“Just like in my song ‘One Shot,’ once you start drinking you don’t always make the best decisions,” Hayes explains. “That’s why I know my buzzed warning signs. When I see one of these signs, I call a car or a friend instead of getting behind the wheel.”

Hayes deftly plucks a guitar riff for the clips, and also reveals his buzzed warning sign. It’s trying to solve all the world’s problem–but yours might be texting an ex or taking too many selfies.

According to the NHTSA, over 10,000 people in America died in alcohol-impaired crashes in 2017 – or one person every 48 minutes. The commercials will air all across the country on TV and radio. Hayes’ current single is the uplifting anthem “Heartbreak,” and he’ll kick off his Closer to You headlining tour April 18 in Atlanta, GA.
