Jordan Davis Recalls the First Time He Heard Himself on Radio

"That's why you come to town, to get your songs on the radio, whether you write them or whether you're singing them," said Davis.

As a massive fan of country radio all his life, Jordan Davis dreamed of the day he would hear his very own song playing through the car speakers.

His aspiration came to fruition while hanging out in a grocery store parking lot in the middle of Texas when Davis heard the first note of “Singles You Up” come to life. Profanity aside, the rising country star couldn’t believe what he was hearing and freaked out immediately when he finally achieved what he’d worked so hard for.

“I was in Houston, Texas. We were outside of a Sprouts parking lot. It was me and my radio rep, Miranda, and she knew it was coming on. I didn’t know it was coming on, so she was filming me like secretly. And when it hit, I think I was behind a Carrie Underwood song, and so I heard the intro lick and I was just like, ‘Whoa!’ And I think I dropped a couple of bad words, I hope my mom never sees that video. But that’s why you come to town, to get your songs on the radio, whether you write them or whether you’re singing them. And being a radio kid, I grew up listening to 93.7 in Shreveport, Louisiana. It’s just kind of a wild, surreal moment,” Davis remembered during an interview with Sounds Like Nashville.

It’s been quite the year for Davis overall, after releasing his debut album to fans and touring across the country on his own headlining tour. The Louisiana native is only going to grow bigger from here, especially after “Singles You Up” topped the country charts.

To follow up the smash single, Davis’ “Take It From Me” will be the second release from his debut record, Home State.
