Each week, we focus on the latest gallivant around the streets we’ve come to call home for a new adventure and give readers an inside look on what makes this city special. Touring around a new city on the vacation of a lifetime sounds pretty cool, but what really would make an trip experience better involves two wheels and landmark views like none other.

Feeling the breeze blowing through your hair and enjoying the leisure of not making one step along the journey, segways are the way of the future that make walking a thing of the past. Sure, trekking around on foot may provide a deeper connection to the city streets, but the invention of the Segway embraced the future twofold and it’s time to accept the benefit that roll along with the innovation.

Enter iRide Nashville: the main Segway tour that spins in style all around town. From the riverfront of downtown to the sidewalks of the city, iRide Nashville takes care of the tourist basics all with the leisure of not lifting one foot. Hopping on board the trendy two-wheel transportation and clicking on that handy-dandy helmet is all it takes to see the city without any worries in the world.

Opting down the ultimate tour of downtown, my iRide tour conquered sidewalk hills and unchartered terrain to catch a glimpse of the best views in town while learning fun facts all about some of the buildings and landmarks sprinkled around the Southern metropolis.

An electric motor and two wheels gave visitors the freedom to bypass destinations such as the Country Music Hall of Fame, the famed Pedestrian Bridge and Bicentennial Park. Overlooking the water of the Cumberland River, the group stopped off for a quick break during the clear-skied mid-afternoon to snap a couple pictures—a necessity along the Segway excursion.

Moving on toward Germantown and the opposite side of the capitol building sitting atop one of Nashville’s highest hills, the guide gave insight into Music City’s historic past and how the town came to be throughout centuries of development. Discovering that Nashville played a significant role in the Civil War, as well as the city standing by with honorary monuments dedicated to the ones who gave their lives in wars before our time, riding around on these tech-savvy gadgets found new meaning for everyone in the bunch.

Although the fun and games of the ride didn’t cease when the poignant information from the tour arose, it made everyone in the round realize that the city represents more than the heart of country music and a healthcare hub—it’s a town full of memories of the past that created the community of today.

The group swiveled around a few more blocks in the downtown vicinity before returning back to the iRide homebase with a newfound appreciation for the city that guests fall in love with and that a resident like me calls my home away from home. Who knew a Segway could revolutionize the perspective about a massive urban area into believing the traditions to be similar to that of a small town?

iRide Nashville discovered the secret nooks and crannies hidden around the city, making for a unique experience getting to know a beloved town south of the Mason-Dixon Line.
