It was a tough time for Kelsea Ballerini and her family recently as the singer confirmed that her grandmother on her mom’s side passed away.

As a musician, Ballerini went through the mourning stages in a creative fashion by channeling her tears and heartache into a new set of lyrics. The singer took the words to song and recorded a special demo to honor the matriarch for her contributions to the family.

“lost my mother’s mother earlier this week. was a tough one to process, so I did as I do…,” Ballerini wrote with the demo shared on Instagram.

The introspective words took on a special meaning for Ballerini when she dedicated it to her late grandmother, describing the little things that made up exactly who the woman was in her true self.

“My mother’s mother / God, she was stubborn / yeah, maybe that’s where I got it from / steady and stoic / she didn’t show it / when there was a mess, it was swept under the rug,” Ballerini sings.

The message behind her lyrics could relate to a number of people’s kindred relationships and fans jumped right behind the “Dibs” singer by sending their condolences. Some even commented on the post with their own personal stories about their relatives, comforting Ballerini in her somber time of need.

Currently, Ballerini is focusing on her latest single to radio, “I Hate Love Songs,” which can be heard on streaming services now.
