Kelsea Ballerini has cemented herself among country music ‘legends’ as she recently notched her fourth No.1 single. Landing in the top spot on the Mediabase charts, “Legends” has only confirmed to the Tennessee native that she’s doing something right.

“I think it’s just reassuring [getting the No. 1],” Ballerini explained to NASH Country Daily. “And it also gives us confidence looking forward to whatever is next—we can take a risk, we can try different things and see what works.”

Ballerini co-wrote the track with longtime collaborator Forest Glen Whitehead and acclaimed songwriter Hillary Lindsey. The song, she admits, is one that has changed meaning to her over time.

“It’s this chameleon of a song. When I wrote it, I had a laser focused vision for it. Now, I think it is a love song. It fits my life in a completely different way,” she explained to Sounds Like Nashville previously. “My favorite [lyric] is, ‘We didn’t do it for the fame or the glory, we just did it for you and me.’ I think that fits my relationship now. Then for fans it’s, ‘We wrote our own story.’ This certain group of fans, they show up for me. They fight for me. They call radio stations for me. They travel 12 hours for me. It’s a really cool bond. Those are the lines that I feel like are for them.”

Upon learning the chart-placement for the smash, Ballerini spent much of the day celebrating at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL, ahead of her performance for the park’s Mardi Gras concert series. “Full of blood, sweat, and heartbeats. truly. y’all- legends is the NUMBERONE song in country music. thank you,” she wrote in a series of photos posted to Instagram.

Ballerini’s next single, “I Hate Love Songs,” will hit country radio soon.
