Country newcomer Maren Morris is fresh off hearing about all of her nominations for the 50th Annual CMA Awards this November and she could not be more excited. After finding out how well-received her music has been over the past year, Morris looked back on all the hard work she put into her debut record.

Fans can tell from Morris’ sound and voice that she isn’t your typical country queen. She’s got a little more edge to her music and writes from a raw and real part of her heart that creates strong, meaningful lyrics in this day and age. But ultimately, it’s her love of music overall that has molded her songs into what they are.

“One of my favorite things to do is just be in the studio. I think the last few years, just being a songwriter and being in studios to do demos I have learned a lot from the best players in town just, you know, the sounds that I love over the last few years, and also just being a music lover myself I definitely was inspired by a lot of like classic rock, and country, and R&B sounds. We tried to find a happy medium to weave all of these different influences,” explained Morris recently.

Blending all of her influences into what she creates, Morris drives the eclectic force into the country music genre, setting her apart from the pack. And yet, she still keeps that country spirit with her storytelling lyrics and her Texas roots ingrained into her sound.

Tune in to the 50th Annual CMA Awards on November 2 at 8 p.m. ET/PT on ABC.
