Mickey Guyton is one of country music’s most commanding new voices, but with her new song, “Nice Things,” she shows a softer side to her voice to highlight the powerful message within the song’s lyrics.

Singing of a person leaving her heart broken and wings crushed for bigger and better things, Guyton decided to approach the song with minimal production and give fans something to think about while they listen.

“I have a big belty voice, but you don’t necessarily always have to use it in a song,” the Texas native told Sounds Like Nashville recently. “That’s what I hope listeners take away from it. I hope they feel a nostalgia when they hear the song and hopefully it’ll get more people to want to hear more songs like that so I can write more like that.”

Giving us all the ‘nice things’ we could hope for, Guyton took the song to Ocean Way Studios in Nashville to film a live performance video. Surrounded by a band of three and a background vocalist, Guyton croons the song she co-wrote with Liz Rose and Stephanie Chapman during a get-together at Rose’s home.

While sharing her own music is something Guyton prides herself on, the singer appreciates highlighting the icons she looked up to as a budding vocalist. Recently, she covered “I Need You” by LeAnn Rimes, an artist she credits for inspiring her to pursue music.

New music from the singer is expected soon.
