From a young age, Morgan Evans admired the determined spirit he saw within fellow musician Keith Urban and became inspired by his artistry to try out music for himself.

Fast forward all this time later and Evans still applauds Urban’s career and how it’s soared through the country music format bigger than any other Australian artists crossing over into the American industry. At the same time, Evans also looks up to the respect Urban maintains throughout the community and hopes to go along with that same attitude.

“I wouldn’t say we’re friends, but certainly we know each other,” Evans told Sounds Like Nashville and other media during an interview. “And he’s such a good dude, that you know, being in Nashville too, we often find ourselves in the same room, you know, at like an award show or whatever. And he’ll always make a point of coming over and saying how are you, and how’s it all going. I haven’t seen him since we put the music out, but he’s always been really nice. And aside from him personally, his music and his journey is obviously very inspirational to someone like me.”

Evans, though, can never forget the first time he crossed paths with Urban—many years ago, the “Kiss Somebody” singer witnessed Urban perform live and it put him on the path to follow in Urban’s footsteps.

“One of the first like real click moments was 15 years ago in my hometown, my mom dragged me along to this show, you know a venue that was built for 2,000 people and there was only 140 people there. And he hadn’t broken in Australia yet. And I had never heard of him before, he came on and played. And I guess it was right before, or maybe just after he put out Golden Road. And he was playing songs like ‘Somebody Like You,’ stuff that like. And I remember watching it going, he’s combining all the music that I love in such a great way that musically that was inspirational. And then to sort of learn his journey after that and follow him, he’s…yeah, certainly an major inspiration and next time I see him I got a few more questions for him,” admitted Evans.

Maybe one day, Evans will achieve his dream of getting to know Urban better, but until then, fans of Evans can listen to his current single, “Kiss Somebody.”
