After the release of his 2016 album Fired Up, Randy Houser decided to take a step back from the spotlight and concentrate on his love for songwriting. Though he earned a No.1 single with the song, “We Went,” the Mississippi native knew he had to find his passion for music and return to the core of who he is.

After a stretch of rejuvenation, Houser is excited to share what he’s been working on with the song “What Whiskey Does.”

“Coming off such a big year in 2017, I really wanted to get back to the basics, experiment with sound and make music that inspired me,” said Houser in a press release. “‘What Whiskey Does’ was born from a mission to forget about all of the bells and whistles, relax and just create music that felt good to make.”

As the song begins, listeners are immediately thrown back in time to a memory of a smoke-filled honky tonk with two-steppers circling the floor.

“I’m gonna light one up and sit right here / I’m gonna drink this hole in the wall out of beer / And when that ice cold beer loses it’s buzz / I’m gonna let that whiskey do what whiskey does,” he sings in the chorus.

Houser wrote the bluesy tune with Keith Gattis and Hillary Lindsey, the latter of which is featured on background vocals.

What Whiskey Does,” the lead single from Houser’s upcoming project, is set to hit radio airwaves on July 29.
