Remember When Billy Currington Made Luke Bryan’s Song a Chart-Topping Hit?
Long before he was a country superstar, Luke Bryan was a songwriter and wrote the smash hit "Good Directions" for Billy Currington.
We all know Luke Bryan as an artist and an entertainer. But a little more than ten years ago, the country music climate looked a little different. Bryan was trying to make his mark on Music City and fellow country singer Billy Currington helped him get there by recording “Good Directions,” a song Bryan wrote alongside Rachel Thibodeau.
The 2006 hit paints a common picture, especially for the two Georgia-natives, of a man selling produce on the side of the road. It is a classic love song between a big city girl and a small town boy who happen to fall in love over turnip greens. (Classic might not be the right word for this, but it’s adorable!)
The song went on to be a smash for Currington, coming in as his second No. 1 single and is still a staple at his live show today. The success continued to grow on “Good Directions,” in 2012 it was RIAA certified platinum for selling over 1 million units.
To bring the track full circle, Bryan released his own version of the song as a bonus track for his 2007 debut album I’ll Stay Me.
Currington is on a hot streak right now, after notching his latest No. 1 single “Do I Make You Wanna.” He is currently on his headlining Up til the Sun Tour.
