Sam Hunt wanted to get as far outside of civilization as he could when it came time to film the music video for his latest single, “Downtown’s Dead.” Heading south of the border, the hitmaker took to the streets on a motorcycle, exploring every corner of the quaint little town.

“We were down in Mexico a couple hours north of Mexico City, in a very rural part of the country. This really unique, cool little town that was positioned around this old volcano. It’s a beautiful country, really great people and a really authentic culture experience for us. It was a lot of fun doing the video,” recalled the Georgia native during an interview with Sounds Like Nashville and other media.

“We really enjoyed the actual experience of going down there and the destination video thing was an excuse for me to travel a little bit,” he continued. “I’ve had to travel a lot over the last couple of years, so I got to enjoy seeing that part of Mexico and meet some new people.”

Though he enjoyed his time traveling, Hunt is back in the states opening as part of Luke Bryan’s What Makes You Country Tour. The tour, in fact, is the reason that Hunt has postponed recording any new music to follow-up with his downtrodden single.

“I keep saying that I’m gonna carve out sounds and get home and really devote my time and energy to create an album, but I feel like I’m just sort of getting by by the skin of my teeth the past couple years, so I’m just scraping up bits and pieces of songs that I’ve got started and trying to put those out as I go and continue to tour. But I do think, you know I said this last year, I didn’t plan on touring this summer, but an opportunity came up to go out with Luke Bryan and I couldn’t pass it up, it was such a great opportunity,” Hunt explained.

Added Hunt, “But this, the end of the summer/fall, I think I’m gonna be able to, hopefully, sink my teeth into a project and have some music ready to go before too long after that.”
