Watch Scotty McCreery Cover Elvis Presley’s ‘That’s All Right’
McCreery covered the song during his time on American Idol and recently sang it once again during a visit to WSM Radio.
Happy birthday, Elvis Presley! January 8 marks what would have been the late rock-n-roll star’s 83rd birthday. Born in Tupelo, MS, and later residing in Memphis, TN, Presley was a major proponent to the early days of rock-n-roll. The iconic act paved the way for many acts to follow, busting down doors with his rockabilly music and provocative dance moves.
Presley continued to prove his naysayers wrong throughout his career, winning multiple awards and even earning the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award at age 36. He released multiple singles (“Hound Dog,” “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Jailhouse Rock,” “(Let Me Be Your ) Teddy Bear,” “Are You Lonesome Tonight?,” “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” among others), several of which charted on country radio. The final single of his lifetime, “Moody Blue,” would hit No.1 on the country charts in 1977.
Even after his untimely death, Presley’s legacy was far from over. Since the beginning of his career, he’s become one of the best-selling artists of all time with estimated sales of 600 million units worldwide. He was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1986), the Gospel Music Hall of Fame (2001), the Rockabilly Hall of Fame (2007), and the Memphis Music Hall of Fame (2012).
With all of the accolades to his name, it’s no surprise Presley continues to influence artists with his creativity today. Scotty McCreery, a well-known Elvis fan, has covered the hitmaker for years, performing a number of his hits while on tour. During his time on American Idol, McCreery put his own twist on the song that was released as Presley’s first single, “That’s All Right.” McCreery recently covered the track once again during a stop at WSM Radio, nearly seven years after his Idol cover.
