It was another hard night on the hit reality TV series The Voice. With just 13 contestants left in the competition, the line-up of singers was cut down to just eight. The first seven aspiring stars to move on in season 16 of The Voice were determined by the voting audience, however, out of the remaining six, three were chosen to perform for an Instant Save.

Before the eliminations began though, it was announced that Maelyn Jarmon was the most streamed artist on Apple Music from the previous night’s performances. And, once again, that reflected audience votes as well and Maelyn was the first rising star announced to continue in the competition.

In typical fashion, the evening wasn’t just about eliminations. Coach John Legend and the remaining contestants from Team Legend—Celia Babini, Maelyn Jarmon and Shawn Sounds—dressed in coordinating black and white suits, performed a flawless rendition of the Aretha Franklin classic, “I Say A Little Prayer.”

Coach Blake Shelton also took the remaining members of his team into the spotlight for a performance. Oliv Blu, Kim Cherry, Carter Lloyd Horne, Gyth Rigdon, Dexter Roberts, and Andrew Sevener, also dressed in coordinating black and white, delivered an energetic and fun version of George Harrison’s “Got My Mind Set On You.” Kim even showed another layer of her talent, picking up a baritone saxophone for a solo.

At the end, with six contestants remaining, it was announced that the three artists vying for the last semi-final spot were LB Crew and Mari from Team Adam, and Team Blake’s Kim Cherry.

Kim was up first with En Vogue’s “My Lovin’ (Never Gonna Get It).” When she finished, Blake told her, “I can’t believe that she was even in this Twitter save moment, but I gotta say, you did what you always do, which is you get up on stage, you own the moment, you embrace who you are and we all feel that when you get on stage. That’s why I pray America votes you through tonight because you need to be on this show.”

Mari went next singing the dramatic “Latch” by Sam Smith. After the judge’s standing ovation, Adam remarked, “I think all of Mari’s performances should have been enough, to be honest with you, and it’s really upsetting that she’s even here right now because if you have eyes and you have ears, you should have never let this happen, everybody at home voting. So make it right, right now and make sure this girl goes through. I don’t get it. I’m in shock.”

LB was the final Instant Save candidate and he chose to sing Khalid’s “Better” for this incredibly crucial performance. Following his performance, Adam said, “I feel the same about LB as I do about Mari. I’m shocked that you’re here. I’m shocked that you had to come back at all because you were an unbelievable vocalist and I love how you perform and I love you. I want to see you move forward just as badly as Mari and it’s brutal that you’re both in the bottom, but you’re so deserving of being here.”

Utilizing specific hashtags on Twitter the final semi-finalist was selected by the viewing audience—Kim Cherry.
