Tim McGraw and Faith Hill Ask for Common Sense Gun Control Following Recent Shootings
"Military weapons should not be in the hands of civilians," Faith Hill urged.
After the horrific tragedies in Las Vegas, New York and Sutherland Springs, Texas, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill are speaking out for the addition of common sense gun laws.
The power couple sat down with Billboard to discuss their dual tour together, how they ended up in a relationship and their approach to parenting. But they also took their platform in the magazine to talk about a petition to get restrictions toward the use of certain guns for average citizens. As a gun owner himself, McGraw rationalized to make it about the lives lost rather than the defense of the Second Amendment in the Constitiution.
“Look, I’m a bird hunter — I love to wing-shoot,” McGraw said to Billboard. “However, there is some common sense that’s necessary when it comes to gun control. They want to make it about the Second Amendment every time it’s brought up. It’s not about the Second Amendment.”
Hill agreed with McGraw, noting that the level of weaponry used in many of the recent mass shooting were equivalent to the guns used by the military.
“The doctors that (treated) the wounded, they saw wounds like you’d see in war. That’s not right. Military weapons should not be in the hands of civilians. It’s everyone’s responsibility, including the government and the National Rifle Association, to tell the truth. We all want a safe country,” Hill concurred with her husband.
The “Breathe” singer even added that she and her husband knew a lot of people personally at the Route 91 Harvest Festival incident, and they wanted to add their opinions to give attention to the issues at hand.
Meanwhile, McGraw and Hill are in the midst of promoting their upcoming duets album called The Rest of Our Life, which will be released on November 17.
