If you want time to fly by, get hooked on a hit reality competition show like NBC’s The Voice. It seemed like yesterday when coaches Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Adam Levine, and Blake Shelton were picking their teams and now, during the May 13 show, the Top 8 finalists are competing to see who will compete in the following week’s finale.

Blake entered the semi-final round with five of his team members remaining in the competition. John had two team members and Kelly had one still going for the win. Each of the Top 8 performed twice—one new song by themselves and one duet from the Beatles catalog.

And Blake’s Texas country boy, Andrew Sevener, kicked off the night of fierce competition.

ANDREW SEVENER – Team Blake
“Long Haired Country Boy” by Charlie Daniels (the Cody Johnson version)
KELLY: “I felt like we were just at your show. I felt like I could totally hear what your record is going to be. You’re that style of country music that I love to listen to, so I’m all for you. I think you’re so talented. I’m so glad you picked this song, I’m glad you did this version. It was a really cool rocked out version.”

GYTH RIGDON – Team Blake
“God Bless the U.S.A.” by Lee Greenwood
BLAKE: “I’m going to say that was, far and away, your best vocal performance. The song clearly means something to you as it does a lot of people. I loved that performance, I love that you chose that song. Welcome to the finale, brother.”

KIM CHERRY – Team Blake
“Together Again” by Janet Jackson
KELLY: “My gosh, thank you for singing. You played beautifully. I also just want to say, I think you would be so rad on Broadway. You have such a gift and such a big voice. Now that I’m just hearing you sing, you have such a huge voice. It’s awesome.”

CARTER LLOYD HORNE – Team Blake
“Take Me to Church” by Hozier
KELLY: “I think this is actually a cool genre, this whole vibe is very cool for you. I just think that song, I don’t know if you were hearing something differently, but you’ll hear it when you watch it back. It was just a little pitchy in the beginning…but I don’t want you to watch this and get down on yourself. You have a really, really rad tone. It’s really cool. It’s very different. And I think stylists like that make great rock-n-roll dudes.”

ROD STOKES – Team Kelly
“Go Rest High On That Mountain” by Vince Gill
JOHN: “It was lovely. It wasn’t one of your technically best performances, but I felt like the emotion was as strong as you’ve ever had it. I really felt that you were singing a song that meant something to you and I felt that from you.”

MAELYN JARMON – Team Legend
“Stay” by Rihanna
ADAM: “I obviously don’t have a horse in the race at this point. I’m just going to say it. You definitely should win The Voice. I believe you should win The Voice and the reason why is very simple: look at the name of this show. You embody what the show is all about, what it has been about for all these seasons and there’s no reason, in my opinion, why you should not win this thing.”

DEXTER ROBERTS – Team Blake
“Here Without You” by 3 Doors Down
KELLY: “I love your voice. I’ve loved it since the blinds. I just thought that was very, very smart, very clever to do something that, by the way, isn’t so far removed from country music, like it’s a song they would do in country music. But I loved that you stepped outside of that genre because there’s so many of y’all right now.”

SHAWN SOUNDS – Team Blake
“A Song for You” by Donny Hathaway
ADAM: “Man! I want to thank you, Shawn, because you just put on a clinic. You put on a singing clinic for everyone here tonight. But not only did you teach everybody to sing tonight because that was the craziest performance of the night, but you do it with so much feeling. You really do cover all the bases You do it perfectly and flawlessly, you execute everything you try to execute, but also manage to stay heartfelt. Thank God for you.”

Duet: Kim Cherry (Team Blake) and Shawn Sounds (Team Legend)
“Eleanor Rigby”

Duet: Maelyn Jarmon (Team Legend) and Rod Stokes (Team Kelly)
“Yesterday”
All four coaches on their feet.

Duet: Gyth Rigdon and Dexter Roberts (both Team Blake)
“Hey Jude”

Duet: Carter Lloyd Horne and Andrew Sevener (both Team Blake)
“Help”

With the voting left in the viewer’s hands, the Top 8 returns on May 14 to learn who gets eliminated and who moves on to the finale of The Voice.
