William Shatner is about to take the dive from film star to country star after signing a recording contract with Heartland Records. The former Star Trek star teased his impending project with a video posted to Twitter by his new label home.

“Country music, I love it! I’ve got friends in the country music industry. I want to do country music and I’m going to do country music with an icon. I can’t tell you who it is right now but it’s going to be so much fun,” he shared in the short clip.

Shatner went on to reveal that he’s got quite a bit of music in the words, but remained mum on the details.

“I’ve got the songs. They write songs like people write poetry, it’s really incredible what these artists who write country music can do!” he continued. “I’ve got some great songs that I want to do and I’m going to do them very soon with somebody you love. I’ll talk to you later.”

News broke of Shatner’s move to country music on February 15 when Heartland Records announced his signing.
“This new project promises to be one of the most entertaining musical ventures to date for the Emmy Award-winning actor,” the group wrote in a press release.

While people may be surprised at the legendary actor’s move into country music, Shatner has had longtime ties to the genre. As well as appearing in Brad Paisley’s music videos for “Online” and “Celebrity,” he’s also appeared on the CMA Awards during Paisley’s hosting tenure with Carrie Underwood.

No word on when Shatner will reveal more about his music or “secret” collaboration.
