Festival season is well underway as country artists tour the nation playing many of the multi-day concerts scheduled throughout the summer months. While temps may be blazing, country stars like Kelsea Ballerini are staying cool with the help of their festival fashion choices.

Sounds Like Nashville had a chance to chat with the “Legends” singer to learn about her fashion faves, like ponytails and sparkly cut-offs, that keep her looking fresh under even the hottest of temperatures.

The Tennessee native will once again hit the summer festival circuit when she performs at Jamboree in the Hills in Belmont, OH on Saturday, 7/15. The four-day festival kicks off its 41st year tonight (7/13) when headliner Thomas Rhett takes the stage. For more information on Jamboree in the Hills, visit jamboreeinthehills.com.

Q: Tell us about your summer festival style.

KB: Well, I think that on stage and off stage is super different. Since we’re doing amphitheaters and festivals all summer with Lady Antebellum, it’s good to be practical because it’s very hot and very humid, but also still elevated from street looks, for me personally, at least. I love definitely shorts and then sparkle. Some kind of sparkle because you have to make sure that the people even in the back see the sparkles.

Q: How to you stay looking cool when it’s so hot outside?

KB: I’m not scared of putting my hair up in a ponytail. I think, honestly, you have to go with the weather. If it’s super humid or super hot, tank top, shorts, and a ponytail. Then just letting yourself just get sweaty. It’s okay, because everyone else is, too.

Q: Have you ever had any festival fashion flubs?

KB: I used to wear… not at the amphitheaters, but at festival festivals, I used to wear really big heels. Yeah, you can’t do that. You can’t do that.

Q: What are three must-haves when you’re out in the sun all day?

KB: I always use some kind of either primer or BB cream that has sunscreen in it, because it’s always just so hot and glary and you’ve got to protect your skin. Texture spray for the hair and a good pair of sparkle shorts.

Q: What are some of your style tips for fans attending festivals?

KB: I love the complete, normal cut-off shorts, boots, and a tank top that says something hilarious like ‘Luke Bryan, shake it for me’ or something like that. I feel like that’s the ultimate festival look and I love it so much.

Q: Is there another artist that you feel is killing it in the festival fashion game?

KB: I always love Carrie Underwood’s festival fashion. I know she’s not doing it this summer but I feel like when she does, she does cute headbands. Her boots that have some cool chains and glitter on them, and the cut-offs. She always does it really well.
